In March, the world celebrates Women’s Month, a time to honor and recognize the contributions and achievements of women throughout history. This year’s theme, “Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas: Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patutunayan”, highlights the importance of gender equality and women’s empowerment in building a more inclusive society in the Philippines.

The celebration kicked off with an inspirational talk by Atty. Khay Ann Magundayao-Borla, (Officer in charge- PCW) on March 8th, International Women’s Day. Atty. Magundayao’s speech emphasized the crucial role of women in nation-building and encouraged women to continue striving for excellence in their respective fields. This was followed by Ms. Reina P. Olivar, Senior Gender Equality and Social Information Officer of PCW, regarding RA 11313 also known as “Safe Spaces Act”, is a Philippine law that aims to prevent gender-based sexual harassment in public spaces. The law mandates the establishment of Safe Spaces in public and in private establishments where individuals are protected from sexual harassment.

As part of the month-long celebration, all women were encouraged to wear purple every Friday, symbolizing unity and solidarity among women. This simple yet powerful gesture aimed to raise awareness about gender equality and the importance of women’s participation in all aspects of society.
Furthermore, a wellness activity was organized, featuring a Zumba session participated in by women from the REINA area. The event not only promoted physical health but also fostered camaraderie among women, highlighting the strength and resilience of women when they come together.
